Music Monday: Menage

Usually I’m introduced to a band during live events and then I’ll search for their studio work (spotify and/or available CDs). The opposite effect has occurred when I first listened to Toronto based, Menage, Christmas song and then checked out their other music on Soundcloud. I was suddenly overwhelmed with their melodies and lyrics and at that moment I hoped they would come to the the LA area soon.

A few months later my wish was granted when they played a week in the SoCal area but of course availability was against me. Just when I thought my chances were over, I got a ticket for their very last show at the Hotel Cafe. I really could not contain my joy to finally Menage took the stage and it was magical!

I was so happy I was able to see them live because they put on one helluva show! I seriously love the way Bela and Fernando’s voices blend together and it makes me ache to hear more. And I have to say this….nicest people group of musicians!! It was great to see them talk to everyone who hung out afterwards. Finding a band who appreciates their fan base is harder than you realize. Those little moments go a long way with me. So if they’re playing in your area you have to check them out – you will not be disappointed.

Video: The Blancos – Lemon Garden

The Blancos – Heartless Romantic EP

Whenever I listen to the band The Blancos the old cliche Do not judge a books by its cover!‘ comes to mind. Admittedly for about a month I simply stared and LIKE their pictures on Instagram before I clicked the link to their music. I easily assumed rock musicians after seeing their photos – I was wrong.

What am I to expect when I see a photo of two attractive bearded hipster-ish grunge guys with eyes that melted my heart? Let me tell you I was not expecting what I heard…their voice and style is mind-blowing…….its like a grittier Marvin Gaye and  singing in my ears and I’m here for ALL. OF. IT.!

My ONE complaint about this video….its only 1:32 seconds!! That’s not enough – I need more.

If you love this video the way I do then head over to their Souncloud page where you’re able to hear their Heartless Romantic EP. One of the sexiest EP’s that has flowed through my ear buds. If this is where RnB & Hip/Hop is going then I’m there! Honestly, I can never just listen to one song by The Blancos, I always have to listen to the entire Heartless Romantic EP several times that day.

And if you’re in the Brooklyn area on Nov.20th please go check them out at the Brooklyn Night Baazar!! (Click the “I AM RAW” banner at the top of the page to purchase)

Seriously someone post some videos so I can salivate properly!

New Music: Paul McDonald – Bright Lights

It was Paul McDonald’s unique voice that landed him the 8th place on America Idol (Season 10), even though he didn’t take home the grand prize he did take the experience and made it his own. Before AI, McDonald was working steadily  touring with his bands Hightide Blues and The Grand Magnolias. If that wasn’t enough to keep him busy in 2012,  he formed yet another band with ex-wife Nikki Reed and they released an EP called  ‘The Best Part’ that had some Billboard and iTunes success which caused more people to take notice his songwriting abilities.

Even with all the success with his various bands, McDonald has been working on a solo album. He just released his new single ‘Bright Light’ and has a Kickstarter campaign in support of his untitled solo album he plans to release in 2015.

I have to say I LOVE this new single!

Bright Lights’ is a great catchy song that will definitely be added to my playlist. Silly as it sounds it’s the type of song that stays in your head and makes you burst out into song at any moment. After listening to Bright Lights its safe to say Paul McDonald is no longer pegion-hold in the coutry/rock genre, this song reflects his songwriting abilities has grown and willing to take chances. Each time I listen to this song I become excited about his upcoming album!

As an indie supporter, I’ve learned putting a CD together isn’t cheap. I know artists who have sold almost all their worldly possessions just to raise funds to either tour or make an album. So when I hear about Kickstarter or Go Fund Me campaigns I try to get the message out as well as donate. I’m far from rich and can’t plop down hundreds of dollars so I donate what I can and  I think every little bit helps and the artists appreciates the effort.

So with that said please take a moment and check out his Kickstarter campaign —-> PAUL McDONALD KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN!

Video: Passenger – Wrong Direction

I can’t believe I’ve only just discovered Passenger!

My god I love his voice and his lyrics are sometimes sarcastic but they usually cut deep. The song ‘Wrong Direction’is one of those songs that describes me perfectly (and my FAVORITE….so far). Its describes the desire to love but unable because of fear, or how we always want something we don’t have. You know the old cliché – its greener on the other side.

Basically go for it or go home.

Passenger is currently on tour and will be in Los Angeles in December and thank goodness I have tickets! Check his facebook page for music and tour dates…..because if you miss his show you will be highly dissappointed.
