Video: Nico Vega – “I Believe (Get Over Yourself)”

In the last couple of years Nico Vega has become one of my favorite indie bands. Aja Volkman is the kind of female front person I’ve always craved when I look for new bands and continues to inspire me.  So when Nico Vega released their song ‘I Believe (Get Over Yourself)‘  in February, it was like they were looking into my life.

Whenever I have doubts about my fitness routine, unfinished novel or simply this blog, I put this song on blast and keep on repeat until I flush away those demons. I love this band because they really emphasis loving yourself and never stop being you.  Today, the official video for ‘I Believe’ was released and directed by NV’s drummer Dan Epand.

Thank you Nico Vega for continuously making me believe!

Review: Queen Caveat – Manufactured Happiness EP

Lauren Little, Ben Epand, Will Weissman and Jesse Magnuson = Queen Caveat

Queen Caveat, one of LA’s favorite indie rock band, recently released their new EP, Manufactured Happiness and I have been in musical heaven ever since.

When I first listened to Manufactured Happiness the song that hit me the hardest was Brave Boy. Lauren Little’s voice is absolutely perfect and the emotional range she exudes both pain and strength and when she sings…”I’m not afraid of being called crazy anymore…” I swear I lose my mind…..but in a good way.

But after listening to this EP several times, I simply cannot choose my favorite song because each song is genuinely great. Almost as if this was a small glimpse into Queen Caveat’s soul as a band. From the moment the first track, Marion which jump starts a heart thumping ride from beginning to end.

Manufactured Happiness leaves me with the same feeling I have when I see Queen Caveat live – excited, exhilarated & fucking happy. If you’re headed to South by Southwest this year make sure to schedule some time to see Queen Caveat!

A Look Inside the Artist In Music Awards 2014

AIMA2014BANNER

On Friday night, was the 3rd annual Artist In Music Awards, an awards show the honors the best in Indie Music. Happily I was on the red carpet for Indie News @ Noon and had great time interviewing some of the nominees before the show which aired on both World Wide Indie Radio and  MSI Radio .

I have to give a special thanks to Mark Lamdanski (Twitter Tuesday) , Carol Riordan (Twitter Tuesday) and Rich Wildman who kept everything going when I had my many brain farts while interviewing. THANK YOU!!!

A special CONGRATS to World Wide Indie Radio’s  Twitter Tuesday show won Independent Radio Show of the Year.

There were great performances from Glitter Rose, Cheating Daylight, Walla, BP Major, MK Ultra, Melanie Taylor Soren Bryce and Torrey  Mercer. One of the most elaborate performances came from BP Major who won Best Dance Artist proved why he won that category. The gorgeous Aussie knew how to put on a great show.

The nominees for the Teen categories intrigued me the most, as I read the bios on these teens I realized they were more than talented musicians they were humanitarians. In this cyber-bullying world Torrey Mercer and Tyler Matl are two teens who rise above it and encourage others to help stop bullying. Reading about it is one thing but to hear them speak about their cause left me speechless.

But the big winner of the night was Glitter Rose who went home with FOUR awards for Best Best Southern Rock Artist, Best Music Video, Performer of the Year and Artist of the Year. All well deserved since she recently played her 3000th show just a few weeks ago.

Congrats to Glitter Rose for her AIMA sweep! WINNER! WINNER!! WINNER!!!

A few weeks ago when I heard 2013 AIMA Best Hip Hop Artist , Kolition, was going to perform I did a happy dance. Yes this is true. I’m not a big fan of rap, I like some but not enough to call myself a rap fan. I had a rare moment of fangirliness when I spoke with these guys on the red carpet. Music aside they’re just great guys.

AIMAKolitionA

There were some technical difficulties but instead of waiting in the wings they did a little free-style rap to keep the crowd going.

Already looking forward to the 2015 AIMA!!!

New Music: Ben Hammersley (feat. Emma Watson)

Ben Hammersley

I’m not ashamed to admit I listened with vapid curiosity to Ben Hammersley’s music because Emma Watson sings back up on some of the tracks. Yes like every other quasi Potterhead I loved her as Hermione Granger but I didn’t know she sung as well. Seriously, this woman has so many layers and loving it!

Once my curiosity was fulfilled I realized I thoroughly enjoyed Hammersley’s EP ‘Solace’ and have had his music on repeat all day. His voice reminds me of a softer version of Passenger with a hint of Jack Johnson. Lyrically, the song ‘Pantomime’ is probably my favorite off the EP, a glimpse into one of those relationships where you’re at the point you irritate each other and words simply aren’t helping anymore…..its just so beautiful.

And Hammersley is selling his EP for FREE!! I think everyone should download and just embrace it the beauty that is Solace.

Video: Nico Vega – “Bang Bang” (Behind the Scenes of A&E “Bonnie & Clyde”)

Nico Vega- Bang, Bang

Nico Vega has released a video on the making of their remake of Nancy Sintra’s ‘Bang,Bang’, for A&E’s Bonnie and Clyde movie starring Emile Hirsch and Holliday Grainger. I will admit I had no desire to see another Bonnie and Clyde remake but hearing Nico Vega’s version of this song had me sold on this movie. Listening to Aja’s voice gives me chills because its just so perfect for this song.

Now if you enjoyed Bang, Bang as much as I did you can get the single for $0.69 cents!!! Click Link: http://bit.ly/1iwBfY3

Song of the Day: Sam Bradley – Woman You Crazy

Song of the Day: Woman You Crazy

Artist: Sam Bradley

Song Of The Day: Tic Tic Boom! – The Sun Will Set

Artist: Tic Tic Boom!

Song: The Sun Will Set

Its no secret The Sun Will Set happens to be my favorite Tic Tic Boom song. It’s just a feel good song that reminds me of California summers and just being carefree. Whenever I hear it I feel the need to turn up loud and just sing. This song alone always reminds me why I believe Tic Tic Boom is one of the best bands in LA!

Very happy TTB will celebrate the official release of their new EP ‘It’s the Heart That’s a Fool’ at the Silverlake Lounge. If you haven’t had a chance to check out this awesome duo then tonight should be the night!

Video: Tic Tic Boom! – How It Ends

Today, Tic Tic Boom! released a new video for their song ‘How It Ends’, directed by lead singer Leilani Francisco. If you follow the band on Instagram, Twitter and/or Facebook the last few weeks, you would have seen them leaving hints about the video shoot.

And my patience has been rewarded……

Its a great video and I simply was not prepared for the Romeo + Juliet twist I have to admit I was a blubbering fool by the end of this video. This video makes me EXCITED for the things to come with this band!

Enjoy!

Save the day for Tic Tic Boom’s EP release, ‘It’s The Heart That’s a Fool’ on October 8th!!

Video: The Love Junkies – Maybelene

This isn’t my usual type of music but the song ‘Maybelene’ by Australian band The Love junkies is so freaking catchy! The Love Junkies can be heard on Triple J and played Southbound and Perth Big Day Out. I can imagine they put on an insane show! So i advise to catch them while you can!
