Matt Corby: Monday (audio video)

Its a known fact that Matt Corby has been the Musical Prince in my heart since I saw him perform at Sxsw in 2011.  Sadly, Matt been off the grid for more than a year….but if you thinkg about it…..he performed at nearly every festival in the UK & Australia, it’s no wonder why he needed a break. During that time he went back into writers mode….and released his new single ‘Monday‘.

And with new music = live shows!

That’s right Matt will be performing live in Australia, so check out his site for more date information!

Be sure to check out the new single on iTunes, YouTube and Spotify.

ode to thinking weekend

The long awaited third studio album of Bobby Long is finally here with the release date this Friday 8/7/15. I had the pleasure of getting to see him live times over the weekend.

The first was Friday night from the comfort of my own home on Concert Window – an amazing interactive website, where fans of the artist can chat while watching the performance and leave the artist tips. I think more artists should to look into this. It’s a great way to stay in touch with your fans. It was a great show. All around fun and great covers done by Bobby including an early 80’s Dolly Parton song, “Jolene”.

The second time was at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA. I have seen Bobby perform at several different places but I think this venue is my favorite place to see him. I am not sure if it’s that place hold so much music history or the fact that the walls are lined with beautiful instruments or the fact the acoustics are amazing. Whatever it is, Bobby is amazing there. If you are ever in LA when he is performing at McCabe’s, please be sure to get a ticket. You will not be disappointed. I also think the fact that NO CELLPHONES are allowed to be on during the performance helps.

The third and final performance was a special listening party at a private home in LA. It was here that I was able to record video a few songs and was also given my copy of the new “Ode to Thinking” CD that I pre-ordered from Bobby’s Pledge campaign.

So now down to what you all wanna know about the album and my thoughts on it. First off, I just wanna say I am so excited that this CD comes with a lyric book. It makes singing along a lot easier. There are 11 songs on the album but I am sad to report that one of my new favorites is NOT on the CD. However, I was told that will be a special vinyl edition that will be coming out on Record Store Day. That song is “Pretty Little Pennies” (even though I SWEAR he says “pretty little panties” but that is another story. LOL).

Bobby’s last album “Wishbone” was a bit more bluesy/rock sounding. With “Ode to Thinking”, you can tell that recording in Austin, TX played a part in how this album would sound. It has more a country blues sound to it. Reading the titles of each song might even depress you, but they are amazing. One of my favorite things about Bobby’s songwriting is the way he able to paint a picture with his words. He always seems to take you on a trip with his songs and that is what he does with “Ode to Thinking”. Whether it is with “cold hours of the morning with the wind in her hair” in the song “I’m Not Going Out Tonight” or “so open up the ventricle and close the bloody vestibule” in “Something Blue, Something Borrowed”, he gets you there. You feel what he is singing (even if I am not sure what that last one means. LOL).

Most of these songs, I have heard live before and they sound just as amazing on this CD, but by far, my favorite of the album is 1985. It is hauntingly beautiful and I love it. But don’t take my word for it – get yourself a copy when it come out this week tomorrow to be exact and if you have the time, you should check out Bobby while he is on tour promoting his new album. SxSW 2015: Matthew Mayfield

No doubt Matthew Mayfield is one of my favorite singer-songwriters of all time. I can listen to him play and share funny little antidotes all day long. Yesterday I was able to catch his set at the Chuggin’ Monkey, despite the loud patrons he played an amazing set.

Check out the video of Mayfield performing ‘Wild Eyes’, which is also the title of his new album. And in case you’re wondering its an AMAZING album!

And if you get a chance, please check him out during his Wild Eyes Tour.

Music Monday: We Are Stars – Virginia To Vegas ft Alyssa Reid

Virginia To Vegas & Alyssa Reid

I was researching another band and came across Derik Baker’s project Virginia to Vegas on YouTube. I must have listened to ‘We Are Stars’ featuring Alyssa Reid for an entire hour, it was safe to say my research shot to hell – this song grabbed me!!

It’s one of those songs I will add to my ‘Motivate Me’ playlist mainly because the catchy melody makes the powerful lyrics seem breezy. Here’s a little truth, recently had this conversation with a new friend, we went from friendly playful banter to this intense deep conversation about life, love and letting go of fear. And I think one of the reasons why I gravitated towards this song is because it reflects everything we talked about. Suddenly, a bulb went off in my head and I love that feeling.

My favorite part:

Life is impossible,

So believe,

that you’re unstoppable.

Damn LOVE that line! I’m a little late to the game but so far I’m really liking this band.

Please enjoy and hopes it inspires!

Seriously cannot wait to get to know this artist a little better!

Music Monday: TILL THE SUN BURNS OUT – [SEBELL]

[SEBELL]There are several artists I wish I could see live but haven’t had the opportunity and at the moment that artist is indie singer Greg Sczebel aka [Sebell]. The more I listen to him the more I want to be trapped in a room and listen to him sing all day. Wait….that sounds creepy but its true….he’s like a musical onion, I want to peel and explore!

At the moment Till The Sun Burns Out have been burning up the Canadian charts, major labels have been courting this independent artist but at the moment he’s undecided. Whether he remains an independent artist or sign to a label, I simply want great quality work that I know [Sebell] can and will produce. Thankfully he plans to release his EP this summer but will have to wait a little while longer for a full length album. At the moment I will take what I can get.

I.WANT.MORE.!!!

Video: Nico Vega – “I Believe (Get Over Yourself)”

In the last couple of years Nico Vega has become one of my favorite indie bands. Aja Volkman is the kind of female front person I’ve always craved when I look for new bands and continues to inspire me.  So when Nico Vega released their song ‘I Believe (Get Over Yourself)‘  in February, it was like they were looking into my life.

Whenever I have doubts about my fitness routine, unfinished novel or simply this blog, I put this song on blast and keep on repeat until I flush away those demons. I love this band because they really emphasis loving yourself and never stop being you.  Today, the official video for ‘I Believe’ was released and directed by NV’s drummer Dan Epand.

Thank you Nico Vega for continuously making me believe!
